Dear friends of the Sycamore Trust,
It's May, summer is on it's way (we hope!) and the countdown to our Stubbers Week has officially begun. But that is in August and there is plenty to get through before that, including Parent Support Groups next week and Parent & Carer training in May and June. Details are included in our latest news bulletin and remember to check our website at www.sycamoretrust.org.uk for all the latest information.
Here comes summer!
It may not look like summer or even feel like summer but the long days are almost upon us and Stubbers week is fast approaching. This week our annual trip to the outdoor adventure centre in Upminster is scheduled for the week of 19th August and we're hoping it will be as good as last year, which was a huge success.
We're expecting it will be as popular as ever so families should look out for the correspondence when it arrives in their inbox or on their doormats in the next week or so. We'd urge everyone wishing to send a young person to Stubbers to respond as quickly as possible as we have a strict limit on places and once all the spaces are filled, there will not be any more.
New for 2019 – there will be a sibling day with brothers & sisters invited to take part and for the first time ever, families will not have to call in to pay their Stubbers fees; we'll be taking credit card payments over the phone!

The Finish Line
Huge congratulations to Andrew Ghagan who completed the London Marathon at the weekend in a time of 5 hours, 47 minutes. Andrew took on the 26 mile challenge to raise money for the Sycamore Trust as a way of thanking us for the work the SWAP team did with his nephew Rico. Andrew raised over £1,000 for the Trust and we are very grateful for his efforts!
Andrew is pictured on The Mall with his medal and he looks fairly relaxed, considering he had just run 26 miles!
To the Manor Born!
The Autism Ambassadors delivered autism awareness training in their usual manner at Eastbury Manor House on Tuesday 30th April to members of Eastbury Manor House staff. Our feedback reflects that all staff members really enjoyed the presentation and the Ambassadors were given a contact to arrange a presentation to the Park Rangers service in Barking and Dagenham.

The Sycamore Trust are to hold two Parent & Carer training sessions this spring for people wishing to develop greater awareness of Autism and to offer help in dealing with certain behaviour traits and characteristics.

Parent Support Group next week
The next in our popular series of Parent Support Groups takes place on Friday week (10th May) at the Autism Hub in the Liberty Shopping Centre
The group is open to anyone who wishes to attend and it gets under way at the Hub at 10.30am. You can find the Hub at Unit H14 in Laurie Walk in the Liberty Centre, or by following the Calm Lane right to our door.
Following Friday week, we have another PSG at our premises in Dagenham in two weeks' time on Monday 13th May, starting at 10am. The address of our building is 27/29 Woodward Road, RM9 4SJ and we are on the 62 bus route, as well as being less than five minutes' walk from Becontree station on the District Line.
The Parent Support Groups are a great way to access information and get advice about activities and services in the local area, or if you'd prefer, just a chance to chat to likeminded people about the issues faced by those caring for someone on the spectrum. The groups are completely free, so just turn up and join in!
